In principle, an IXXI can be hung on any surface. However, it is important that the surface is clean, grease-free, and not too rough.
An IXXI comes with a standard hanging system: the hanging tool, wall clips, tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips, and concrete nails. The tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips adhere best to a smooth, clean, hard, non-porous surface. By additionally using concrete nails, the hanging system is also suitable for rough plasterwork, coarse texture paint, vinyl wallpaper, or other types of walls. Below, we provide some additional tips.
Washable (latex) paint
We sometimes find that the tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips do not adhere well to washable (latex) paint. In this case, lightly sanding the areas where the tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips will be placed may help. This will make the surface slightly rougher and improve the adhesion of the tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips.
Wallpaper
To attach your IXXI to wallpaper, we recommend purchasing tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips for wallpaper and plaster. These are available at various hardware stores.
Tiles
If you plan to hang your IXXI on tiles, for example in the bathroom, there are also special tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips for tiles that you can purchase. These are available at various large hardware stores and will provide better adhesion. Tip: be inspired by this article!
Rough wall (plaster finish)
In our manual, we recommend using the supplied nails as an additional tool. Especially on rough walls (plaster finish), they provide extra reinforcement. For added security, you could even add an extra nail in the middle at the top. For really rough walls, there are also special tesa Powerstrips adhesive strips for plaster. These adhere better to this type of wall and are available at various hardware stores.
Alternatively, you can attach the IXXI to a thin slat. You attach the IXXI to the slat as described in the manual, and then attach it to the wall like a painting.
